Trekking in the Kathmandu Valley is a short and light trekking, perfect for hikers of all ages.
You walk in the hills around the Kathmandu Valley and have beautiful panoramic views of the valley and the Himalayas. You enjoy a beautiful sunrise in Nagarkot. Along the way you pass many villages and familiarize yourself with the daily life of the local Tamang & Newari population.
ITINERARY Kathmandu valley trek
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Private transport from Kathmandu to Sundarijal (1350m/ 4,429 ft), trek to Chisapani (2140m/ 7,020 ft)
After breakfast, your guide and porter pick you up at the reception of your hotel and goes together with you in a private car to the starting point of the trek: Sundarijal. Here your trek starts. You ascend through the Shivapuri National Park and climb to Mulkharka, a typical Tamang village. The trail takes you through forest of rhododendrons and oaks. On the way you have a great panoramic view of the Himalayan range.
Day 3: Trek to Nagarkot (2195m/7,201 ft)
We continue our trek and enjoy the beautiful nature while passing through forests and local villages. There is a magnificent panoramic view on the Himalayan range. From Nagarkot we can see 5 of the 10 highest peaks in the world: the Everest, the Lhotse, the Choyu, the Makalu and the Manaslu. Nagarkot is the best place around Kathmandu to have a beautiful view on the Himalaya and to enjoy a beautiful sunset and sunrise.
Day 4: Trek to Dhulikhel (1625m/ 5,331 ft)
The trail first climbs to the tower of Nagarkot. The view from this tower is incredible: you see the Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley. The trail then descends to some picturesque villages and green forests. If the sky is bright, you can admire the Eastern range of the Himalayas today.
Day 5: Trek to Namobuddha (1982m/ 6,502 ft)
We continue our trek direction Namobuddha, a quite and lovely village, known for its big Buddhist Monastery. The Monastery has a magnificent location, surrounded by nature. Here you can meet the monks, talk to hem and be present at there prayer ceremonies. To make it complete, you sleep in the guesthouse on the premises of the Monastery.
Day 6: Trek to Baltali (1730m/ 5,675 ft)
Today we continue the trail to Balthali. We walk through terraced fields and orchards full with oranges. We pass through some local villages, where we see the locals busy with their daily activities. In Balthali you can visit some temples and you have a great view on the surrounding hills. When the weather is clear you will be able to see some of the highest peaks of the Himalayas.
Day 7: Trek to Panauti (1500m/ 4921 ft) and transport to Kathmandu.
We descend to Panauti, a typical Newari village. In Panauti you visit the Indreshwor Mahadev Temple, a temple devoted to the God Shiva, and some other Hindu temples. Panauti is known for its Newari culture and traditions. After this visit we return to Kathmandu by private car.
Day 8: Transfer to the airport for outbound flight.
